Engines

This 351W is what came in my truck when I got it. My truck originally had a 300 cubic inch six cylinder engine. This was attached to a Ford FMX automatic transmission, I don’t think I will run this trans. I nicely dressed up the engine, with an aluminum intake, Holley carb, chrome valve covers, and a chrome air cleaner. I found the headers at a swap meet at Norwalk drag way in Norwalk, Ohio. This engine runs really strong, but the valve stem seals are starting to not do their job. Sorry for the quality of the photo, it’s a digital picture of a Polaroid picture.

In this picture, you can see it resting on my shop floor waiting to be put back into my truck. Connected to it is a Ford AOD auto trans. AOD stands for Automatic OverDrive. This will give noticeably better gas mileage.

This is a picture of the 460 Ford that I got for cleaning out a lady’s yard. This looks like it is in good shape, as every moving part does. I removed the valve covers, and turned the engine by hand, and all the valves open and close, and the distributor rotor turns. I had the alternator tested, and it puts out full power! The water pump turns, the air conditioning pump turns, and the power steering pump turns, but will need replaced(the fluid reservoir was smashed somehow). Really the only things I know that are bad on this engine are the PS pump, and the carburetor looks pretty gross, and the throttle linkage is bent. This engine really looks nasty in this picture, and there are a ton of extra hoses, but it will certainly clean up nicely, and will look pretty decent when detailed. When I finally use this engine in something, it will get an aftermarket carburetor, and will become very nice looking. I had it on my engine stand, but it started to bend it. I need to get a better stand for it.

Here is a picture of the C-6 automatic transmission that came attached to the 460. I don’t know anything about it’s condition. The only thing I know is that the shafts turn. It looks like the pan is a little bent too.

This picture is my 302 Ford. This engine is complete, and I got it for cheap. It is in good shape. I had the block magnafluxed (checked for cracks) and it passed no cracks. The crankshaft has been turned down .010/.010 to clean it up to allow for new oversized bearings. I had the heads checked, and they are in great shape. No cracks, and the valve guides are in good shape. The engine is still standard bore, it is just barely within the limits of wear. Notice how clean it looks. This is because it’s sitting in my basement of my house. This engine is going to look really nice once it is all together and running.
